The Western Balkans region presents an opportunity for the RIBES project to conduct a regional case study on CBE transition needs, opportunities, and bottlenecks. This will enhance mutual learning, know-how exchange, and promote synergies that strengthen the capacities of countries with fragmented regulatory frameworks and limited market uptake and investment capacities. Rural development and agriculture are essential priorities in the accession process for all WB countries. However, rural areas in the region face several challenges, including limited entrepreneurial and business development opportunities, underdeveloped infrastructure and access to rural areas, weak access to public institutions, and limited funding resources. The Western Balkans region is heavily impacted by climate change, and this trend is projected to continue, leading to harms in agriculture, forestry, and water supply, among other environmental issues. To transition to climate neutrality in a just and inclusive manner, the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans was adopted, aligning with the European Green Deal. RIBES will strengthen stakeholder capacities in the region while promoting strategic outlooks for transnational initiatives that benefit from economies of scale and broader market uptake opportunities. RIBES will strengthen the compound capacities of stakeholders in Western Balkans, promoting synergies and strategic outlooks for transnational initiatives that will benefit from economies of scale and broader market uptake opportunities.
