The Nitra Region in Slovakia has a strong agricultural history and is considered a rural region, with a population of around 680,000 inhabitants. It has a regional GDP of €10,000 M, with a per capita GDP of €15,000 and an unemployment rate of 4.5%. The region has a significant concentration of agri-food infrastructure, capacities, and knowledge, including the University of Agriculture, National Agriculture and Food Centre, and other institutes and stakeholders. The Bioeconomy Cluster is essential in networking circular bioeconomy actors, sharing knowledge, providing advisory services to farmers, and policy recommendations to policymakers. However, value chains are fragmented, incomplete, and not coordinated, and social innovation lags. RIBES will enhance the elaboration of CBE policies and strategies, enriching them with innovative governance and business models to empower social entrepreneurs through knowledge sharing and mutual learning.
